OK, There's a canister on the fire wall of my chevy that's 10" long and 4 1/4" in diameter with 2 small ports on the bottom. It sits just above the battery box and is in the way of me getting to the battery and cables. What is it, and what does it do? Thanks for any info. Dan O.

The radiator overflow tank-Chevrolet called it a overflow condenser, was available as an accessory from 1938-54.Was used to catch the the coolant when car overheated or engine shut off when very hot and the antifreeze would be lost. This was escepially important with the alcahol based antifreeze often used back then. The alachol would acrually lower the boiling point of the coolant. If the tank is solid-no holes- I could give you the intructions for hooking up the hoses. If you look close you will see that the metal overflow tube on the radiator has been cut off - top side of the core.

Thanks for the info. It looks as if it has some tiny rust holes in it so it's something that I could remove and not have to worry about it. I've never seen the item on any street rods so I think I eleminate the overflow tank. Thanks again for the info. Dan O.
