Are there any mirrors on the market.. correct or not that allow the driver to see properly?

More concerned with safety and vision than 100% correct.

But it there's something that's 100% correct and functions.. all the better!

I've seen them but I love their data...

This part fits most 1937 1938 1939 1940 1941 1942 1946 1947 1948 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1954 Chevrolet Cars; exceptions may apply. Please read the complete description to see if this part fits your specific vehicle and application.

Sounds like a cop out to cover themselves.......

Hate to spend that kind of money to find out they can be put on a 37 but the angles don't work for function...

Anyone have these or any other mirrors actually on a 37/38 and they help you drive in traffic?

You can see that there are a lot of aftermarket mirrors from Chevs of the 40's. I have a 38 Roadster fitted with a pair of 985984A mirrors. Cheap enough at $19.25 and they work well. Mine don't clamp on. I threw that bit away and simply have a single bolt coming through the 1/4 vent surround into the base of the stem.

Thanks.

Seems every show or every car in a magazine has mirrors but unless you sit in the car you cant be sure they are really helping...LOL

Any chance you can post a photo showing them installed?

Most states require a driver's side outside mirror.

Texas requires a windshield wiper but not a windshield....

Go figure that one out!

What I'm trying to find out is what mirror will actually function on a 37/38...
In other words I've sat in a few antique cars with side mirrors that were useless due to the mounting location, size or angle to the drives eyes when seated and driving......

I want to do more than just satisfy the police that I doubt would care anyways...

I'm 60 and I know I've driven thousands of miles in Texas in 57s with no side mirror... never had it mentioned by anyone...LOL

As far as I'm aware of, the '37 Chevy did not come from the factory with a side mirror. There was a small mirror that was offered as a Dealer installed accessory, and it clipped on the edge of the small gutter above the vent window.

Where I live few cars had an external rear view mirror before about 1965 so you don't have to have one now. I do get people who tell me this but I don't care. This is not 1937 and there's a lot more traffic and people have panic attacks when they see an old car and do crazy things like pass on the wrong side. I can easily see both sides of my car with the mirrors and I feel a lot more secure. You do what suits you.
I seem to have forgotten how to embed a photo onto the forum so for now I will send you an image attached to an email. I hope that it helps.

I have a clamp-on mounted on my driver's side door front lip. It works well.

Craig,

I got a set of these Mr. Gasket stainless swan neck mirrors from Amazon:

Amazon.com

I mounted them to the door just forward of and below the vent windows. They are smaller than modern mirrors, but we're the best I could find. The drivers side mirror works fine for my driving position. On the passengers side, I purchased a 4" round wide view mirror with adhesive backing that I simply adhered to the swan neck mirror. It's not great, but at least I can see if there's a car over there.

And the set of polished mirrors was only $34.

There are some mirrors that enlarge objects, good for the passenger side.

I am wondering if the truck version can be modified and used on the Master hinge.

RumRunner,
Did these bolt through the sheetmetal or?

They do. Two holes each. A 1/4" hole to attach firmly, and a smaller one to stop the mirror from rotating. Access from inside the door was easy. The mirrors come with all hardware and a rubber gasket.

The polished finish is quite nice.

Only slight drawback is that when the vent windows are opened fully they will hit the mirrors (at least for the location that I mounted mine) and move them. I just don't open that far any more.
