Ray,

Thanks for posting the information about production numbers. I have already looked up as to how many cabriolets were produced in 41-48.

We appreciate you taking the time to make these type posts.

I just found an old copy of a Vintage Canada publication that has a brief history of early Gm and a list of Canadian production figures. It states total Canadian (domestic and export) for 1929 at 46449 Chevrolet passenger cars. Aside from the engine number and the body style number there would have been a car or serial number stamped on a plate nailed to the main sill. Would there be documentation of what car or serial numbers were used by Chevrolet in Canada for 1929?

1929 Serial Numbers GM Canada
Cut/pasted so rather ugly. GM Canada's records of this era were lost in a fire in the 80's so personally held info obtained before the fire is all that presently exists.

^^1ST PARTS LIST DEC 15TH 1928 REFERS TO OSHAWA BUILD AS WELL AS WALKERVILLE SERIALS STARTING WITH # 315001.

*THE NEXT PARTS LIST WAS JANUARY 2ND, 1929 AND STATED THAT WALKERVILLE STARTED WITH # 318001 AND OSHAWA # 350001

BUT THIS WAS BEFORE REGINA STARTED ASSEMBLY FEBRUARY 9TH, 1929 IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOME TRUCKS WERE BUILT AT OSHAWA

AS PILOT BUILDS FROM DECEMBER 1928 TO 8 FEBRUARY 1929 AND REGINA SERIALS RAN ON ACCORDINGLY.

THE 1929 PARTS BOOK FOR “PASSENGER CARS AND COMMERCIAL CHASSIS” STATES THAT THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE

INTERNATIONAL MODELS WILL BE FOUND STAMPED ON A SMALL METAL PLATE LOCATED ON THE RIGHT FRONT SILL ON ALL

PASSENGER CARS. ON THE TOURING CHASSIS AND ON HALF-TON CHASSIS, IT WILL BE FOUND ON THE DASH. FIRST INTERNATIONAL

SERIAL NUMBERS ARE: REGINA # 355001 AND OSHAWA # 371001

THE 1929 “UTILITY EXPRESS TRUCKS” PARTS BOOK STATES THAT THE SERIAL NUMBERS ARE:

WALKERVILLE # 318001 AND OSHAWA # 350001

1928 27 DEC 1928-DEC 1929 1929 INTERNATIONAL UTILITY EXPRESS SERIES L.Q.112 OSHAWA PILOT BUILD 350001 ? AS ABOVE ? 72041?

1928 27 DEC 1928-DEC 1929 1929 INTERNATIONAL UTILITY EXPRESS SERIES L.Q.112 WALKERVILLE 315001^^ 318001* *QUOTED JANUARY 2ND PARTS LIST 340950 AS ABOVE 22949? 72041?

Reading that I am confused? Did Oshawa numbers start at 350001 or 371001?. I have a brass plate from a coach and am thinking of reproducing it to stamp for my sedan and cabriolet. Thanks for this information!

The info shows that GM had errors in the parts manuals: BOTH of these ranges of serial #'s were listed in different GM Canada manuals. One of those annoying things that happens when you have humans recording things.

I think I sent you the full soft copies of this data a while back but can't recall. It was compiled by the late David Hayward.

VINTAGE VEHICLE SERVICES....Oshawa Canada....905..440--7697 GEORGE

they possess all the info needed, and charge for that info. They will tell you about A specific car style but not the whole production .

They have the info for the FISHER BODY styles and also the open cars bodies supplied to Chevrolet production line by an outside source.. Hercules-Campbell ?

The firewall or floor tag machine is still at GM on Park rd, no longer in use. It was In frank Agueci office .

My question to them would be can they match serial number to body number and engine number on an all original car? If not then they have nothing to sell me.

I don't believe the information they or anybody else, can answer your desired question.

Its up to you to pose the question to them to find out.

Only a firewall Fisher body stamped plate has the info your looking for.

George will tell you what they have/don't have records of. If they don't have what you are looking for, he'll tell you not to spend your $$. It's worth the call as you can tell he honestly wants to help car guys.

1929 cowl tag only gives body style and body sequential number, not car serial number. Car serial number would have been on plate nailed to lower sill, close to passenger side of front seat. That tag is missing.
