I have to replace most, if not all the rubber weather stripping on my 1950 Belair. Can anyone recommend a source they purchased from where the weather stripping quality and installation turned out good? Is there one that you would NOT recommend? Thanks

I would guess most of it comes from Steele.....the only problem is most of the replacement is not as "soft" as the original making the doors more difficult to close.

Like ChevNut, my 1950 4 door with weather stripping bought from either FS or COTF makes the doors hard to latch closed.

I've had good luck with everything I got from Steele.Good choice. I purchased mine from a reproduction parts house, came in bags but the items were all made by Steele.

One trick is to make sure is that before you place the adheasive on the the W/S wipe it several times with "prep-sol" or and paint prep degreaser. The W/S is covered with silicone that is used as a release agent from the forming molds and the W/S adheasive wil not stick to it. I WILL ONLY use 3M SUPER W/S adheasive. I place a coat on each surface let it dry and then I place a second coat over that and while it is a dry/tacky I go to work, it is never coming off. Also wipe the metal surface with the prep-sol prior. I really had great luck with Steel Products, except for the newer cars (70's) it was just the wrong thickness. You do get what you pay for. The made good on something that was missed boxed 2 years after I bought, just keep your reciepts

Ditto on 3M weatherstrip adhesive. And the yellow version holds stronger than the black.

I agree with the STEELE rubber info but like what has been said when new the doors are a little tough to close, yes the yellow is better in the glue department but I like the black cause if you mess up a little bit it doesn't look bad. I know hawkeye personally he is doing a great job on his car cant wait to see the bel-aire as it goes thru its stages of restoration andy
