My old 39 Radiator needs replacing. I'm not sure if the one in the car is the original or not. The Rad. has a part number stamp on it as 3113401. Could someone tell me something about this Radiator.

Thank you,

I don't find the number in the parts book but the number looks like a later series than what was used in 1939.
Is the overflow tube on top of the tank or in the neck where the cap fits on?

Both..is goes from the filler neck then along the top and down the side...I did some research using the parts number and it might be a 1940 Olds radiator..

Would happen to have a picture what a 39 Rad. suppose to look like...

Gene..would you know the correct Fan Belt number..the one that was on it said..4L 420 F3T

This one on ebay at the moment shows part number on the upper tank as 3112128 , with a date of 38 L for October 1938 manufacture.
My spare I have one at home has the same number and 38M for November 1938 manufacture.

But you need the correct 1939 Chevrolet radiator to do that.

Should the Rad. have a pressure cap on it?

NO - a pressure cap will not work on a 1939 radiator becaue the over flow is on the top of the top tank.
The 1948 was the first year to have a pressure cap.

Just go to a NAPA store and ask for a 1952 Chevrolet car fan belt. If they don't have one they will get you one in record time.

Chevrolet used the same belt from 1937-1952 and it also fits a Model A F@@d......Its 5/8" wide and 41 1/2" long.

So does mean when I order a new Radiator I should not get one that is pressurized?

If described as pressurized they relocated the over flow tube location and a pressure cap can be used. I would check with the place selling the radiator to make sure.
On a car that old I would not install a cap over 4 pounds which will raise the boiling point to about 220 degrees.
