Pulled the motor out of my 28 for a overhaul and some where along the line the lever that clamps on the end of the timing control tube has fallen off. I just want to make sure that when you advance the distributor it turns counter clockwise like a small block. Depending which way (side) the lever is clamped on the tube it will turn the distributor different direction. Thanks

should restate the question. the controls are extremely adjustable. the linkage will force correct placement.
I have a 1927 Chevy Capital AA 4 Door also a 1927 Chevy Touring car, a 1936 Chevy 1/2 ton and a 2010 Corvette LT3 Convertible and a 1953 Packard Caribbean. My tow car is a 2011 Suburban.

If the lever is clamped with rod connection towards bottom of car it will twist the distributor to the right when advanced on the steering wheel. When the lever is clamped with rod connection towards the top it turns the distributor counter clockwise when advanced from the steering wheel controls. I just want to make sure the distributor turn counter clockwise when advanced. I take it this should be correct since the rotor turn clockwise.

both my 27s have the distributor advance at 3 oclock position full retard start position. I push the control lever up towards high noon and it stops there in the full advance position. loosen the clamps at bottom of column on tube and position them so the linkage rod connects to the swing on the engine in a manner consistant with above clock positions. the throttle linkage will also determine position if you have both correct linkages.

I understand what your saying but I can clamp the lever to the bottom of the tube in 2 different positions (180 degrees apart) and the rod coming from lever on engine will fit either one. I guess the main thing I need to know is when your timing on steering wheel is advanced (pointing up) which direction does this turn the distributor.

actually the swings on the 1927 engine are different than the swing on the 1928 engine. I know that because I have a 1927 engine in my 1927 sedan and a 1928 engine in my 1927 touring car. The swing itself mounted on the engine at the oil valve is different on each engine, they are not the same, the arms are at different position, and I had to tweek the linkage to operate the 28 swing properly or consistant with the 1927 3 oclock , 12 oclock desired control lever position .
if anyone has an extra 1927 swing I would like one.

Howdy 1927chevy........On my 28 1Ton, if I advance the lever in the cab the distributor rotates counterclockwise. The lever on the distributor points to the front and is pulled into/toward the block.
Happiness is the trip, not the destination.
