I have purchased new door ferrules, gasket and the install tool. However, what is the best way to remove old ferrule without damaging paint?

Thanks

Hello hopwooddon,
Please let us know what year and model vehicle you are working on, ok. I assume that you are referring to the outside handles and trim because of the reference to paint. I do not know how the handle is secured from within and unless you can see a roll pin through the handle on the outside, I would assume that the handle and shaft are one unit. If so, access to the securing device must be from the inside of the door. Others should be able to advise you correctly.

The year and model are definitely needed as there are differences even amongst the 29-32 years. Putting some tape around the ferrule should help prevent paint chipping. With the handles removed you should be able to roll back the crimp on the inside of the ferrule.

It is a 1931 Coach. I got them out, not easy but I used a Dremel Tool to cut away the inside of ferrule. This way I did not harm paint. Installation of new ferrule using required tool was easy.

Thanks for your help

Gunsmoke,

I purchased the ferrules for my 31 and rented the tool from the FS. Hope this helps.
