The firewall insulator listed on the Filling Station web site states it is only for closed cars. Was there another type of insulator used on open cars or was the interior firewall bare? Thanks.

I purchased a firewall insulator for my 31 roadster and it fit like a glove. I am not sure why they indicated for closed cars only. I didn't have anything in my roadster to compare it to. But, all the holes lined up and it fits very well.

Paul
If it isn't broken, fiddle with it anyway so you have something to repair.

According to the Chevrolet parts book, the mat for the 1931 firewall is the same for the closed cars and the open cars.

Question : If you reverse the Roadster Insulation Mat will it also fit a RHD Vehicle built by Holden Motor Bodies - Australia ?

The mats are moulded to fit the firewall so if the mat is reversed the center "hump" would no longer be convex but concave instead.

Paul, you could probably use the main part of the firewall pad as it is, but the 2 smaller pieces will not fit due to pedal cut outs. Those pieces would still need to be refabricated to suit RHD.
Check out the item at www.fillingstation.com part number TC-P31. Would have to check sizes with the filling station and other hole locations to be sure of 1930 to 1931 differences.

FYI --- 31 and 32 are not molded as JYD pointed out. Molded mats started in 33.

I purchased my 31 Special Sedan firewall mat from Labarron Bonney last year. It fits perfectly. Real good quality.

Happy Motoring!
