Should I trust 64 year old wire and just repair the bad sections or replace the entire harness? Any suggestion where I go to get an exact duplicate wiring harness for a 1950 Chevrolet? Any suggestions or ideas? What would you do?

I would replace the entire wiring harness. You can get a new harness from the Filling Station.

I would replace it also. The repairs you are talking about are the ones you can see. What about the ones you don't see? I used Rhode Island Wiring. They're not only the distributor but they are the manufacture.....Joe

I have used a YNZ wiring harness and was very satisfied. I also stopped by their plant and talked to their owner. Very knowledgeable and nice fellow.

I have been very happy with YNZ harnesses...The instructions were also very accruate..I am concidering having them rewire my 48 turn signal switch.I paid some pretty good $ for it and would rather not mess with it myself

I have bought from YNZ. Clock wire, turn signal harness, and reverse polarity harness. All for the 41 project.

I have a couple wiry-Joe harnesses I'm going to use one on the project, as well.

I'll need a good wire to run from the ignition switch over to the light switch or wherever it goes over there.

The YNZ products look really great. I don't know who COF or FS uses for suppliers. I've heard good things about Rhode Island Wiring as well. (I think that is the correct name.)

I have the Rhode Island Wiring and am VERY happy with it, love the cloth covered wires, and professional build of the entire harness...

as above [http://www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com/]http://YnZ's Yesterdays Parts[/url] is another great supplier of wiring.

Do NOT think you could go wrong with either of these two...

You can buy a ncomplete Ready Built kit, or buy all the pieces (wire, clips, etc..) and build your won. they will also CUSTOM build a kit for you from scratch or using an existing kit they sell and add in wires, etc...

I purchased a new wiring harness for my '37 from Cof's. It was a YnZ harness. Called and talked to a rep at YnZ and found out they supply all the smaller harnesses for Cof's.

Well, my question to repair or replace the wire harness was answered this weekend. The rocket scientist who owned the car before me cut a lot of corners - as well as wires. By adding a turn signal to this car, he cut wires, used multi-colored plastic wire and left wires bare thoughout the car. Now it's a no-brainer. Thanks to all that gave suggestions and advise. Just to show you how lazy/thrifty/stupid the previous owner was, he used pop rivets to hold the crown molding to the rear fender. Yes, he drilled holes throught the stainless steel. Fortunately, he only detroyed one side and I have a another pair to replace his craftsmanship.

Not to be a contrairan but I did experience one downside with my YNZ harness. The source of the bulk wire they buy (maybe RIW is the same??) takes modern PCV coated wire then weaves the cloth braiding over that to give the appearance of the old harnesses. This makes the wire a larger diameter for a given gauge. It can provide a challenge when running wires through grommets made for the original smaller diameter wire. Things can get pretty snug. You also need to be aware that the "thick" wire you are grabbing may not be as heavy a gauge as you think it is by it's appearance.
