I replaced the headliner in my truck and have a new rear-view mirror to install. There were screw holes for the sunshades, but I don't recall seeing holes/bracket for the rear view mirror.

Any recommendations for how to install?

Thanks,
Lyn

For the 1955 1st design with a two piece windshield Chevrolet sold a little accessory bracket that attached to the center divider. The mirror stem threaded into that bracket.

On the 1951 Chevrolet truck that I had the rear view mirror was attached to the center windshield divider as Gene described above.

1954 and 1955 1st series trucks have a 1 piece curved windshield.
They do not have a divider bar.

The bracket was sold as an accessory and mounted above the center of the windshield. My poor picture looks like it may have been mounted with two screws. According to Chevrolet the acessory 1954 car day night mirror was used with the bracket.

The mounting bracket for the rear view mirror was specific to the 1954 & 1955.1 trucks only {GM part # 986898 }.

The Guide day/night mirror was paired to the mounting bracket
{GM part # 986948}.

The picture in the accessories literature is an "artist rendering" & does not depict the mirror itself accurately but it does accurately depict the mounting bracket....

Wow, you all are awesome. Thanks for so many replies.
I have the 2 - hole bracket, but I don't see a steel backer behind the headliner. Was this an accessory that came with the accessory? Or maybe I missed the backer plate?
Or maybe it screwed into the headliner? (It seems awful flimsy this way.)

While I am not familiar with the 54/55 trucks my guess is the mirror mounted the the inner frame around the windscreen. There may or may not be screw holes there to find but a fine needle would be the easiest way to find them.
