I GIVE UP ! What is the trick to remove the lock cylinder out of my 47 trunk handle. I followed direction in the service manual and got the locking pin removed but when I pull on the key to remove the cylinder it won't budge. If I pull too hard the key pulls out no matter what position I have it in. Must be something else I'm not seeing???????
Thanks, Dick

Does the lock cylinder in the handle move in any direction? IF IT doesn't move the cylinder has expanded and will be very difficult to remove . Al

AL; THE CYLINDER WILL TURN WITH THE KEY, LOCKS & UNLOCKS BUT WILL NOT PULL OUT AFTER THE PIN HAS BEEN REMOVED.

If you removed the small pin close to the prowl sp? and the spring wire retainer around the face of the key hole, it should come out. Don't mean to state the obvious. Just give you encouragement. Good luck

I suspected there was a retainer but since manual did not mention it's removal I did not pursue that avenue. Will try to get back to that project in the next few days. Will let you know the outcome.
Thanks much. dick

Dick its got to be the retainer, its easy to pry out...Take some picture,so you remember how to reassemble..I have had mine apart for some time now due to the cost of plating. After getting a bid to have it done I just could not pull the trigger...$300 for the handle itself...Glad I did most my bright work years ago

I just could not pull the trigger...$300 for the handle itself You just need to get a part-time job at one of those hamburger joints that have $15.00 a hour minimum wage.

I can't believe that the maintenance manual doesn't mention the retainer ring. Dick, I'm glad you got it out. Small seemingly simple things can prove rather difficult at times. This has been a good testament of us help one another. Charlie BTW: That $15 bucks an hour will probably trigger higher prices at the marijuana store. It's like when you get a cost of living raise, you'll notice that the cost of living will go up to match and erase the benefits of the raise. Most all cost will be passed along and the whole economy will be affected. BTW2: Now that we know that CC has a bad (needs plating) trunk handle, let's be sure and whisper that in the judge's ear. Something like, "Did you notice the trunk handle doesn't look quite pristine? He's admitted that he is too cheap to 'pull the trigger'" or words to that effect. BTW3: This has been an intriguingly and helpful thread. Has too! What are you 42-48ers going to talk about now. How to remove a valve stem?

Sorry Charlie, BTW...The Pot stores are not real busy, the drug lords pricing is still much lower BTW2 The 48 is sporting a perfectly made pristine REPO handle"which would never be suspected incorrect"Replating the original is for my own personal integrity" BTW3 As you can see us 46-48 guys stick together and any question is a good question..."IS TOO"
