Does anyone sell the original type belts (i.e. no "teeth")? I am having no luck finding one. Parts book says I need either a 3/8 x 41 1/2 (P/N 3847706) or a 3/8 x 43 3/4 (P/N 3770513). Since I'm not sure which is right, I'd like to get one of each. Any help greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the narrow belts you require but I got the solid style wide belt from NAPA.

Yep, NAPA should be a good source for the solid fan belt.

I got one from ACE hardware. Less writing on it than the biggie manufacturers...Joe

When selecting the proper belt be sure to check the angle dimensions also so that it sits correctly in the grooves of the pulley.

The width of the fan belt is important too.

Man, I sure appreciate it. Local NAPA guys can only tell me about what is on the computer. Biggest problem with the other belts I've found is the indelible writing on the edge (my local hardware store has them with "Mitsubishi" on them; I don't think GM was using these in '53).

Lacquer thinner and a rag will remove most if not all the writing ink. It will not remove any indention but make it less noticeable. I have used fractional horsepower belts from the local hardware store for 20+ years. Many will tell you not to use them on automotive applications.

I have also lightly buffed the print off with a Dremel tool.

NAPA belts are made by Gates Rubber who markets under their name, NAPA, ACDelco, Carquest and others. You should have many choices. The ACDelco part number is IB 40.

At the NAPA store a few years back they gave me NAPA #20426 (5/8" X 43"). Fits and works well.

The one I bought back then does not have the "teeth" on it as shown in the image on the NAPA website for #2520426.

A lot of the industrial type belts wont last long when used on small diameter pulleys.

I just ordered a #2520426 belt from NAPA and it rolled over to a new number. That belt as notches in it so I did not buy it. I contacted Gates and all they gave me was an industrial belt number B 40. Any other choices or suggestions?

I have used fractional horsepower belts from my local hardware store for the past 10 or more years. Haven't had any problems with them and they are less expensive than at the LAPS (local auto parts store).

I had no problem finding the correct wider belt at an older auto store...No teeth...They knew what I wanted...Took a day for it to come...But, I was happy...
