The picture of the 986324 1949 visor is incorrect. Chevrolet used the same (incorrect) picture in the 1949 accessory booklet. The actual visor was the same as the 1950 visor EXCEPT it did not had the chrome moulding on the leading edge. I have pictures some place that I may be able to find.
That was clearly indicated in my earlier postThe earliest use of an official GM accessory outside sun visor that I have ever been able to document was in 1949 & that would have been {GM part # 986324} Sedan visor.
This visor was also produced by Dieterich & it was identical to the later visor {986433} except this visor did not have the stainless molding trims on the leading edge.
Sorry to say the 1948 visor picture is correct. I have only one picture of that ugly thing on a car. There were several aftermarket cisors that looked a lot better and around here most got Fulton visors. That 1948 visor, Chevrolet called it a sun shade, out side type, was acessory # 986192, and if I remember correctly was first offered in mis 1947.
Good info. Also the picture with the "instruction" printed on top is not the same visor Chevrolet used....and not pictured on a Chevrolet.
That picture was posted to demonstrate the fact that Dieterich was a big manufacturer of visors during the era.
The visor Dieterich produced under contract with GM to be used as official GM accessories on the 1949-1952 cars was a modified version of the visor pictured.
