I'd like to work on both sides of the engine, and I'd love to take the hood off. It's not overly apparent how to do so, though. Any hints?

All you have to do is lean the radiator forward about 3/4 inch, and the center hinge rod will be clear of the attachment point on the top of the radiator shroud. Then you (and a friend) can lift the entire hood assembly (all four pieces: sides and top pieces) off the car and you're all set.

To do so, you simply remove the bolt attaching the "vee" rod from the firewall to the radiator where it attaches to the radiator and pull the top of the radiator forward until the front end of the center rod which connects the two halves of the hood is clear of the radiator shell. If you have problems getting it to move far enough, you may have to drain the radiator and remove the upper radiator hose to allow the radiator to lean forward.

Good luck with it and have fun!

All the Best, Chip

If it's anything like my 31, all you have to do is go under dash and loosen the 2 nuts that hold the tie bar to the top of radiator. That will let the hinge to come out at the top at the radiator and than just have some help in holding the hood as you remove it from cowl clip. You don't need too much clearance and the top radiator hose should give enough so you don't have to worry about that.

Another thing to consider, I have a couple of buddies running Model A's and they got from the Ford A club parts house a neat tie bar that runs across the original tie bar close to the firewall clamped on and it has 2 molded holders that hold up both sides of hood.

The Filling Station has a Vidio on their website showing you exactly how to do it.
