Hello all. Have been attempting to refurbish the tie rod on my 31 Coach and have a question about the tie rod ends. On my car they do not match - one is likely from some other year or model. The one that I think is correct seems to be a cast or forged part. The "shoulder" where the diameter increases is rounded and there is tapped hole (5/16"?) for a standard Alemite grease fitting. The other appears to be machined. The shoulder is square as if cut on a lathe and the hole for the grease fitting is much smaller, maybe 3/16". I think this one is incorrect for my car. Does that sound correct? If so, does anyone have a correct tie rod end for sale? I need the end that has the left-hand thread. As always, thanks for the help. Tom VCCA #5898

Both of mine on my '31 Special Sedan are the rounded tapered variety. That's original according to the Master Parts list. Try Gary Wallace in St. Louis; he has a lot of original parts.

The '30-'31 tie rod ends have rounded taper between the threads for the rod and wider section for the ball retainers and spring. The spring is a tapered spring as the wide part is only long enough for the two seats and plug. They are 4 11/32" long versus over 5" long for '29 and '32 and later.
