I have just installed a good 1941 rad into my 40 Special Deluxe.
I have read elsewhere on this forum that this was a common fix for the 1940 as the 41 rad cooled better.
While the 41 rad fits perfectly, it is slightly different in that it does not have the two clips under the top tank which hold the wiring harness in place.
This poses a problem as the harness needs to cross over the rad and without the two clips, it is likely to fall into the fan and cause a lot of damage.
So can the two clips be cut out of my old rad and epoxied onto the new rad? Or perhaps there is another solution?

is it possible to run the wiring out in front of the radiator where the cross bar is on the core support?

I am afraid not. The wiring harness is too short. It could be routed across behind the rad, above the top hose, but this
looks bad, and I want to retain original look as much as possible.

Hello ggvette,

I'm not familiar with the '40 radiator / clips, rather than cut them off, could you duplicate them and bond them in place JB Weld ??

Yes, that would be a better option.Problem is if one of them comes loose, the harness is into the fan.Thanks

If the harness clips were soft soldered to the brass top radiator tank,why not just re-solder them to the '41 radiator top brass tank.Failing that,make a couple of new clips out of a piece of strip copper or brass and solder them on in the same place as the originals

I would be using solder to attach copper or brass tabs. I have not used JB weld so wont comment on the suitability.

The 41 radiator, I have, has clips on it. You found one that has had its clips removed or is a generic after market one. There are 4 clips on mine 2 are easily seen in the picture and the others are on each side below the bolts holding the radiator to its frame. You could easily design/buy a fastener for each side and place them like washers under the bolts. This would serve as an excellant backup for whatever you make up to hold the harness over the fan. They are not going to fail causing the harness to drop onto the fan.

Perhaps a radiator repair shop could weld you some fasteners on the radiator under the brass top?

The wiring clamps were soldered on. Use a torch and melt the solder, take them off, clean them up and the place on the tank you want to install them and solder them in place.

Coat the clamp with a little solder and then press it against the cleaned place on the tank, use a pressure device such as a screwdriver, and heat the clamp until the solder melts, quickly brush away and excess solder while it is still hot. Use a little water to splash on the hot metal. It will quickly fix/set the clamps in place.
