I have been in the market for a new car. After reading the praises you guys posted here on the Impala I also placed that on the short list. Went to a dealer that had Chevrolets and Cadillacs (no Buicks, GM will not let a dealer have a GMC Buick franchise on the same property as a Chevrolet Dealer,,,,mmmm,,,,,, some people in the VCCA might think GMC's and Chevrolets are the same but GM does not and wants them marketed as separate brands)
I liked the Buick, my wife did not like the way the headrest contacted her head she sat in the seat, so Buick was out. So we narrowed it down to Chevrolet and Cadillac. We even toyed with getting a 2 door so we compaired the Camaro and the STS Coupe, but a moment of clarity came over us and knew there will be a day that we will need/have to use the back seat, for a human over the age of 35, so the key never hit the ignition.
Any way drove the Impala loaded nice car rode nice, then drove the STS, felt like more like a BMW then the BMW did. Went back drove the Impala again, nice car but not as nice. Then again it is not supposed to be as nice. There was about an 10K difference in price, but with the Cadillac incentives it lowered it about $7K between the two, Chevrolet did not offer the same incentives. I pick up my new CTS on Tuesday,(was supposd to be yesterday but he had to fix a recall, hope this is not an omen) My reason was it was a MUCH better ride, more bang for the buck, 4 years 50,000 mile warranty as opposed to 3 years 36,000 miles, 4 years of oil and tire rotation and also because I can!
Trade in..... I got the best offer from the dealer who I bought my car from. But we hit about 10 GM different dealers in a 60 miles radius in 3 states. The 2008 Yukon I have owned since new 63,000 miles the trade in offer went as low as $16,500 and as high as $22,500. The best price was from a dealer in NYC, for everything! WHY IS THERE A $6,000 PRICE SWING?
A few things I did learn, The way the best road to road test the ride of new car on is the worst road easy to find in good old Brooklyn NY, no problem finding pot holes. The Impala rode a heck of a lot better in CT and NJ Dealers get nervous when you offer to pay in good old USA green paper cash instead of a bank check. One dealer said he would not take it! Another even had the nerve to ask how I got it! Like I would tell him if I got the wrong way. The guy in Brooklyn said thanks and took another $800 off! My kind of businessman. No games everything was done in 1 hour, no BS these other salesman put you through. Bottom line I am buying a car, make me me buy it form you

Congrats on the new purchase! The price swing for the used car could be the difference from dealership to dealership of what is already on his lot, and what his plans are for the truck. If he thinks that it's going straight to auction, he'll offer a lot less for it, as he will get less for it later. If he's in an "upscale" area, and he thinks it'll move at an upscale price, he'll offer you more. If he's already got a lot full of used Yukons, he'll be less inclined to offer you more for it. Yours sounds like it was well taken care of, so it'll be a good deal for someoneā¦
Did you find that the volume of cars sold by a dealer made a price difference in either the new car or the offer on the Yukon?

In our area our Chevrolet Dealer has the Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac franchises all in the same facility and on the same property. It is one complete dealership. Enjoy your new ride! I'm sure that you will really enjoy the CTS.

Holz maotors in Wartertown, Wi. has Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac. At the present time there are only two Cadilllac Dealers in the greater Milwauke area....and Cadillac is wondering why there sales are slipping and otherluxery makes are gaining.

John, Great story and well written. Down here GMC's are usually sold by a Buick or Cadillac dealer or a stand alone GMC dealer. Like you have up there, I suppose. I'm surprised you didn't go for the .09 or Zero percent financing and leave your cash in an account drawing more interest than the cost of financing. What am I missing here? Congratulations on the new ride. I'm sure the missus will enjoy it and it will give you many miles of excellent service. Cadillac huh? Man you just can't hide money! Best, Charlie

John, That dealer really wanted to sell you a car and probably needed cash. Also I am sure had a customer for the trade. Most get rebate from finance company or GMAC or bank that holds the note so don't give a discount for cash. They also get a ton of $$$ from the extended warranty people so really push both financing and extended warranties. It is the extras where the profit is in selling cars.
Last dealers I talked to still try to have the retail sales cover overhead, office and sales salaries. Parts and service hold their own and make some money but used vehicles are where the majority of the profit comes from.
