I have a Rochester 2g carburetor with manual choke on my 55 chevy truck. It is hard to start when it sits for a day or two, like about a dozen cranks or so. I tried different methods like pull the choke out, pump the gas, don't pump the gas, pump the gas once, hold the pedal down or just keep cranking till it fires ????? But once it fires and is warm or hot it starts right up on the first try.It idles fine when warm. ???????

I suspect that the power valve is leaking resulting in the gas slowly draining from the carburetor.

Other possibilitys
Gas evaporating from craburetor causing the accelerator pump well to go dry.
Remove air cleaner and see if pump is sqirting gas into carb. throat. (before starting engine)
When retrning from a "hot" run raise hood and allow heat to escape.

While the power valve is at the bottom of the bowl everything that enters or leaves it is up hill so it can not drain the bowl.
The pump system fills from the bottom of the bowl so if there is gas in the bowl it should work
Another thought is the inlet or outlet check ball for the pump passage may be leaking down.
If it were mine I would get the engine good and hot, put it away hot, leave it sit for a few days and then remmove the bowl cover to see if it (the bowl)is full of gas.
Also make sure the heat riser is free. If stuck in the cold position (weight up) the hot exhaust is passing directly under the the base of the carb. and cooking the gas in the bowl.
