What size compressor will be adequate to sandblast an auto frame? I am looking at one, which is 2.5 H.P., 21 gallon -125psi. Air delivery 4.7 scfm@90 psi, and 5.8 scfm @ 40psi. ANY INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

It all depends upon the orifice size that you are using on your air jet, which determines the size of the compressor and the CFM required for the job. Using an 1/8" air jet (which is a little small for a large blasting job on a car frame) for continuous operation you would need at least a 5 horsepower two stage compressor with a minimum of 15 CFM output and an 80 gallon tank to maintain around 70 pounds of air pressure.

At any rate, the compressor that you listed is too small for the job.

I have a 5hp two stage 175PSI max compressor that I believe puts out 13.2 cfm @ 90lbs and it cycles a lot. It will do the job but requires a lot of starting and stopping. My recommendation is to send it out to a shop that can blast and prime. The one you are looking at is no where near adequate for what you want to do. If you do get one that will work I am sure it will cost more than having it done out. A good AMERICAN made compressor will cost around $1500.00. Add in the blaster and hoses and controls and you will spend at least two grand.

Steve is absolutely right....the compressor that you are looking at is way inadequate for the job and that compressor would even be hard pressed to run some air tools.

As Steve mentioned, you would be better off having your frame professionally blasted and it would be a lot cheaper.
