Hello all; I am wondering if there are any assembly books on the 490 chev. I need to time my motor and I cannot find a fireing order. Is there a better distributor for this motor? I also need to replace some wooden pieces and do not know if they need to be fabbed or are they available. I own a machine shop so fabbing isn't a problem if I can get some prints or sketches. still cannot post any pictures so if you want to see my car send me a e-mail and I will send the pictures. Once Again in Advance Thanks Tony

Welcome to this wonderful site, tcmachine. There's a wealth of knowledge and info within the VCCA waiting for you to tap into. There is additional info and privileges once you become a member of this great organization.
The first question is what year is your 490? And the first recommendation is to get a reprint of the shop manual. These books are available from a number of sources: The Filling Station, ebay, etc. The books will answer most of your questions and the folks here can answer the rest!
Cheers, Dean

Tony , I have sent you a PM , click on the flashing envelope next to My Stuff. There are parts books available which will help you identify most parts. The wood will have to be fabricated after making a template to suit the shape of the panels when you get them set up for trial. You may have to make them first out of a cheap timber , and then copy them in a decent timber when you are happy with the shape. Don't think there is any other way, as the 490 is not common enough to have samples around.

The firing order on a 490 is 1 2 4 3 .
