I recently made a mistake when I purchased this sending unit for my 1937 Master Deluxe Business Coupe. The sending unit is actually supposed to be for a truck, but is there any reason it wouldn't work in my car?

Thanks.

The only potential issue I see may be it fitting in the baffled area of your tank. It will only fit one way & get all of the screws in. If it'll fit & screw down without the float hitting the side of the tank or one of the baffles it should work. This is what the OEM sender looks like in my '38. I'm making the assumption the '37 is the same. Notice the difference in length of the float wire.

If it fits inside the tank without interference and has a 30 ohm range it should be just fine.

Also depends on if the depth of the truck & coupe tanks are the same. If the truck & coupe senders have different part numbers, it's very likely they won't interchange.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll check the ohm range first, and if that checks out, then I'll give'er a try. Thanks again!

If you measure the travel of the float between 0 and 30 ohms then you can calculate the full to empty distance. Bending the wire can then adjust one limit and adjusting the length to the float center the range. If it is not 0 - 30 amps then it won't match the gauge.

I was able to check the ohm range and it is indeed 0 - 30. So far so good! Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to check the travel distance of the float and compare it to the depth of the tank. Thanks again for the help.

Just a quick update. Even though everything seemed to point towards this sending unit possibly working, when I went to install it, the holes didn't line up. Doh!

Looks like I'll be sending it back for the right one.

Thanks for all the help!

The OEM sender only fits one way to get all of the holes lined up. The OEM sender has the float arm pointing more or less toward the center of the tank. If you didn't already you might try turning it both ways some to see if the holes will fall in to place. I'd be surprised to find out there's no position at all where they line up.
