I need to replace the ring gear in the differential of a '28 Chevy - the old gear is attached with rivets and I have rivets to attach the new gear - questions: what method is best to set the rivets? I have access to a 50Ton hydraulic press, would that accomplish the setting of the rivets? Would I be better off having a professional with the proper equipment do the job?

Years ago the truck shop I worked at used to rivet all the ring gears. Then the manufacturers switched to bolts. If it were mine I would bolt it, however I do not have experience with a 28 gear. If it has to be riveted due to clearance etc. then having a professional do it would be a good idea.

found brake shop that works on large trucks and construction equipment, they removed 10 rivets and replaced/set 10 provided rivets for $47 - I think that is a very reasonable price
