Hi, I saw the following Camaro on Craigslist. It would be fun, but it's a manual and the wife can't drive stick.

In this vintage, were automatics common?

Seems a silly question now, even though most of the cars I saw had manuals, the automatics are out there also.

My sorce says 56% of 1967 Camaros had an automatic transmissions.

I found another '67 with automatic and a six cylinder. All original. On the controls there's "Air". What are the odds that this means air conditioning rather than vent?

Do you have other interesting stats for this car?

Air would be the same as vent...opens fresh air intake like the cowl vent was years ago.
There were to sizes of 6 cylinder engines available in 1967.The base was a 230 cubic inch and the optional was a 250 cubic inch. The 250 gave the car fairly good power for a 6 cyl. It cost $26.35 more. 26.6 % of the 1967 Camaros had 6 Cyl. engines.Generally a 6 Cyl. cars didn't have a lot of options.

If it has factory air, it will have a fan speed switch on the LH side of that control panel...Joe

Thanks, helps a lot. It doesn't have air. I don't know yet the engine size but will find out. It seems silly for such a small cost difference to even offer the smaller six.

Ok, so I've purchased the six cylinder '67 Camaro, relatives picking it up tomorrow. I'll post pictures soon.

It's time for a roadtrip!

I'm taking it to a great, trusted mechanic. He'll go through it thoroughly. Initial things to look for:
- all fluids, hoses, belts
- brakes, and brake & fuel line condition
- front wheel bearing repacking
- tuneup
- tire dry rot

What else should I be thinking about?
What gasoline additives do you recommend?
If I need new tires, recommendations? They guys say to put the original hub caps in the shed and to put on nice mag wheels. Nice thought, but tough on my timeline.

The roadtrip will be 2,000 miles to get it home. Yes, I've got AAA, but I don't plan to use it. :-)

I would consider replacing the fuel pump, clean and adjust the brakes along with checking wheel cylinders. Have the starter amp draw checked and have the alternator output check along with making sure the regulator is functioning. I would try and get some driving time on it before I left on a 2,000 mile trip to give things a good test. I would have the date code on the tires checked to see how old they are, if they are over 5 years old I would install some new radials.

Nice car! I have no idea of production numbers but the bench seat must be a rare item.

The Strato-back front bench seat was a $26.35 option.I'm sure few had them. Then on another page it says bucket seats were and option and 97% had them.

OK I looked at my 1967 Chevrolet show room album.The standard Camaro seat was a Strato -back (high back) bucket seat. 97% would have had that seat. The optional seat was a Strato-back with folding arm rest . That means 3% would have had it.

It looks like it has it's original RC15 radiator cap. You don't want that to get away for sure. You probably realize the skunk stripes were not an option...Joe
