Where can I purchase a new gas tank for my 1937 Business Coupe? The only place that I have been able to find one is a stainless steel one at Chevys of the 40's for $740 plus shipping. Is there a cheaper place to purchase a new tank that will fit my car?

You've run into the same issue I had. I eventually tried to save (and was successful) my original because I couldn't afford a new one. I acid cleaned the inside of mine, brazed the pin holes shut, then coated the inside with Redkote liner. It's been going on ten years now and still OK.

I did the same thing as Tiny did. I tried to salvage my original tank by repairing the rusted through pin holes in the bottom of the tank. By searching the internet, I found out through reading the reviews that the Industrial Strength JB Weld was the best patching material. I bought a box of it (which was fairly expensive) and repaired the rust. It worked very well and didn't leak. I decided to seal the entire inside of the tank before I installed it and again searched the internet and read all of the reviews to see what was the best and most successful sealer. I purchased a combination pack of KBS ( a three step process--cleaner, liquid blaster and sealer). I was in the process of completing step two when the baffle came loose inside the tank--caused probably from shaking a loose chain (as recommended) in the tank when cleaning to knock all of the loose rust free inside the tank. The inside of my tank came shiny clean but I couldn't continue sealing the tank (step 3) because the baffle was loose inside the tank. SO WHAT WAS I TO DO?? I purchased a new tank from Tanks, Inc. in Iowa that will fit a 1937 sedan (they said that it wouldn't fit a coupe). They were right. I installed the new tank in my car. Moved the gas pickup tubing and installed a new fuel gage sender. I took it to the gas station to fill it up. It would not take gas because the inlet fed tube was too level going into the tank and the gas came rushing back at me and all over my clothes. The sedan tank will fit in but it is too deep and too high and will not fill with gas. AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A $740 STAINLESS STEEL TANK THAT FITS??? WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Hey, thanks to all of you wonderful and helpful guys (and gals) who are so willing to help and have "have been there and done that."

Oh, by the way, I have a brand new (never used) 1937 sedan gas tank and sender unit for sale. But, I must remind you, it definitely will not work in a Business Coupe.

The first mistake was using something heavy like a chain in an old rusty tank. That's what the "cleaner" is for. The three step process you purchased likely had a mild acid as the cleaner. Too late to cry about it now though. You might see what these guys will charge you.
