I have just rebuilt my 1930 194 engine. I am about to place the oil distributors back in and hear that I might need to get them alined? I hear there is a Jig or something.. What can I do???? Steven

The oil distributor is the small gizmo located on outside of block below the carb, and has the oil pressure gauge connected to it etc. There is no particular aligning issue with it, simply bolts into place. So you must be thinking about the various copper oil lines inside the block which feed oil to the bearings and connrod troughs etc? Is this what you are asking?

I think he is refering to the oil lines that fil the main bearing pockets and rod oil troughs.

Steve, I make a template from cardboard that has slots aligned with the center of each channel that leads to the troughs and locating holes matching the bolt holes in the oil pan. Center the template using the bolt holes in the block and then align the tubes to fit the slots. The tubes extend a short distance below the block lip. I think about 1/8-1/4" but my distance guesstimates are not that accurate.

Another check after the template is to put a little modeling clay in the top part of the oil pan troughs flush with the trough top. Put very small pieces of tape over the oil tubes to keep matter out of the holes. Use locating studs and dry gaskets and fasten pan to the block with the normal hardware. The oil tubes will crush the modeling clay and leave an indentation as to location. This was a good double-check when I worked on my 34 engine. I am assuming the pan and oil troughs are similar. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I just looked at the oil pan tracks that they drain into. I had never noticed them before. They seem pushed inward and closed in at the bottom. Do I bend them back out and open the bottom or are they supposed to be like that?

They are crimped in from the factory but not closed. They feed the connecting rod dipper troughs at bottom of pan.
