Hi All,
Being a newbie and after looking at the FAQ's, not finding what I was after,
I thought I might as well go the whole hog and lay my problem on the line.
Bought a 1965 Bel Air, without being able to put it up on a hoist.
Once I got it home, after 1,500 kms transport cotss, it turns out the chassis has cracked, actually broken off, where the trailing arms attach. I am assuming I need to get the body taken off the chassis.
Wil try and attach photos, greatly reduced to avoid taking up forum space.

The car has been modified by people who have no idea of how to look after an old car, and it turns out that I am the one to get it back into a safe and working condition.
Yes someone did fit a 454ci into it. The Bel Air was not made for this and therefore the damage.
Thanking you all in advance and best regards,
Klaus

Hi Klaus, welcome to chevy chatter.

You should be able to weld up the chassis and replate the damage section. It may have also broken in that area due to rust inside the lower chassis rails.

I have had to repair a 1968 chassis that had been chopped out for airbags where the springs are in the rear chassis , and the steel welds quite well. Good luck with your repairs.

Thanks Jack.
If you let me know how I can post a few low res photos on here you can see for yourself.
Or email me if you like. reimannk@me.com
I spent most of today on line looking for a link of how to repair this.

Been waiting for a car like this since I was 15, in '65 and will see this through to get it roadworthy again.

OK
did a temporary weld repair, allowing me to drive it back home, 4km.

Body coming off chassis in September for full fillet and gusset weldin plates to be fitted. New fuel tank all ball joints, bushes while the body is off.

Any other thoughts of what I should plan for while the body is off the chassis ?

Thanks
Klaus
