I was told by the po that this 40 was painted a light blue when he purchased it back in the 70`s .....he said he found the original color back inside the headlight housing and painted the car that color. People ask me at shows if this is a 1940 color ?? Is it and which blue is it ,if so?? I see a few blues listed on the 1940 paint lists- this is a VERY dark blue and looks black in dim light .....Thank you [Linked Image from i1357.photobucket.com]

There were two dark blues in 1940. One was Harbor blue. I would describe it as a medium dark blue.
Then there was Gulf Blue. A very dark blue. Both colors were metallic and Harbor blue was more common from my memory.
Gulf Blue was paint #272
From the picture it appears your car is Gulf Blue
Very nice looking car.
