I took the brake bands off of my 1927 LM (1 ton truck) and had them relined. The thickest part of the old lining measured .207 of an inch, so I had the shop put on .250 soft woven lining.
Now, the gap in between the brake bands is too small for the thickness of the drum, so I can't get the rear wheels back on. ;-(
Before I start sanding down the new lining, what should the lining thickness be?
I suspect I should have had the shop use 3/16 lining and not 1/4 inch.
Thanks, Dean

The lining should be 2" wide X 3/16" thick for the service brakes.

Thanks for the info.
Now I get to decide if I want to sand 1/16" off the new linings or just replace them with 3/16".
Time for another Diet Coke.

Howdy Rustaholic......Last winter I relined the back brakes on my 28 1Ton. I didn't know size to use so I put 5/16's linings. They did and do work, but I had to back off all the slack to get the drums on then adjusted back, but not very much. I think the next time I'd use 3/16's or 1/4 in. so's there's a little adjustment left to use.....
