I have seen 2 types of 4 cyl engines. One is solid block and the other is split with 2 cylinders in front and 2 in back. Are both for 1925 cars or not?

Like Roger says, you have not provided enough information to form a reply. Are you talking about the single or double valve covers? Any pictures?

Probably I have been confused by single and double valve covers.

Don't feel alone. Here is the rule. A 4-cylinder Chevrolet engine with two (covers two cylinders) valve covers is an early 1925 engine. An engine with a single valve cover and a casting # and casting date in late 1925 is a 1925 engine. If the engine has a belt driven generator it will be a 1926-28.

If you have additional questions, feel free to post them here on the Forum.
