I traced a pervasive gas smell that had been bugging me to a leak at the point where the pickup tube exits the front of the tank on my '34 Master. At first I suspected the fitting where the fuel line connects, but it appears to come from the tank wall, about 1 1/2 inched behind the fitting. So I drained the upper half. ![[Linked Image from i1176.photobucket.com]](http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x324/landman2/IMG_0219.jpg) Then I looked in the FS catalogue for a replacement. The only thing in there for a '34 Master is a $750 stainless unit. Looks like I'll have to remove it and try to fix the leak. Is that tube just soldered in a sleeve at the tank wall? The stub is about 1 1/2 inches long. I can't see for the coating all over that area.
Best Regards, Pat

I just remembered the old tank behind the shed. Looks like there is a threaded plug soldered to the wall. I assume the stub is a threaded steel tubing that screws into that. ![[Linked Image from i1176.photobucket.com]](http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x324/landman2/IMG_0220.jpg) I crawled under the car for another look, and now that I know what I'm looking for, it looks like that plug is there too. ![[Linked Image from i1176.photobucket.com]](http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x324/landman2/IMG_0222.jpg)

Hey Pat,
You might call Kent, I think he has made a 34 tank. I know he has made some really nice 32 tanks.

You might think this odd....but I had a leak in my fuel tank after bottoming out on a rail road track. I used chewing gum to seal it! (Note: you have to chew the gum first.) Just stuck it on there and it sealed.

I was pretty sure that TANKS INC made the 34 master fuel tank, but according to their site only the standard in steel at $300 and also stainless steel here is a link to their site. I see that their standard tank holds more gas than stock so this would match a master which had a slightly larger tank with more capacity. http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/p...id=36/category_id=63/mode=prod/prd36.htmmike lynch

I thought the only difference was the tanks gallonage capacity, with the standard being smaller. I have the tank I took out of the roadster and I could measure length--- width ----height for you. Not sure if the filler tube neck is in exactly the same location ? I can also take pictures of the gas tank if you want them.........but do not have your email address anymore with computer wipeout last December . You could also talk to filling station and get the measurements of that stainless tank Must be more than one maker of old chevy tanks. for went searching some more and found these guys these guys list a 34 master tank but for fuel injection, they also say they rep[air your old tank. http://www.rockvalleyantiqueautoparts.commike lynch

The Standard tank doesn't look anything like the Master's. I'll try and scare up a few photos.

The 1934 Master coupe tank fits all coupes and the 2 and 4 door without a trunk. The Trunk 2 and 4 door are different as is the sedan delivery.

On 34 masters the only thing different would be the gas tank filler neck placement on the actual gas tank on 1934 masters. 3 & 5 window coupes , cabriolets, roadsters and regular sedans , this would be to match the position of the gas cap outlet in the "rear cross member /gas tank cover panel". On 1934 masters this removable gas tank cover panel , the opening begins 1" down from the top. So specific sedan body types would use a gas cap filler pipe location different from the other body styles. The opening for the gas tank neck in a 1934 -1935 STANDARD is 1/2" down from the top of the panel, ***IF**** the car has the removable cover panel = coupes, roadster , phaetons , sedans for 1934, for 1935 = ONLY the...coupes , roadsters, , phaetons. Beginning in 1935 on sedans there was no removable panel it was a one piece stamping. mike lynch " madmike3434 "

It is in the same spot for all body styles. It is the neck itself which is different. I used the tank from my Sport Sedan parts car on a 5 window coupe. I had to change the filler neck.
