On my 1931 the water pump is making noise. It may need grease. Also there is an adjustment nut for packing. Should I do some adjusting??

The only time I would tighten the pump packing is if it is leaking or allowing air to go by the shaft. I believe the maintenance manual suggest to turn the grease cup 1/4 turn every 100 miles or so.

If it were mine I would not turn down the cup that often. The 1934 manual (same pump) says to "turn down the grease cup every 1000 miles".....and oil the oiler every 1000 miles.

Guess I'll have to reread my manual. Maybe I missed a zero.

Remove the fan belt and see if the noise goes away. If it does you will know it is either the water pump or the generator.
