I am trying to replace the old mummyfied spare tire on Matilda but, I do not seem to be intelligent enough to figure how to get the rim off of the car!

Have removed the single nut from the stud at the bottom of the carrier. Nothing will budge. What next???? I really do not want to get a bigger hammer.

I told the wife that back in the day, farmers and teenagers messed with these cars all the time. It is not high tech!! She told me that maybe I need to go out and buy a pair of bib overalls to put me into the correct frame of mind to play with Matilda. Do you old pros think that will that help? LOL

With the single nut at the bottom of the carrier removed, there should be an angled steel piece located under where the removed nut was, remove it. Now grasp the tire/split rim assembly with both hands at the lower end of the assembly and pull rearward until the tire/rim is beyond the tire carrier. Now lift the tire/rim assembly vertically up and out of the carrier until the valve stem exits the hole in the tire carrier. The tire/rim should be free at this point.

I'm old but not a pro and I doubt that bibbed overalls will help but if you get them and wear them you'll probably look cool and put a smile on the neighbors.

Hey Oldie,
You the man!! I read your answer and went out to the garage and had the rim off in two minutes. Would have been faster but the bottom of the holder behind that stud was bent down not allowing movement of the rim. My 25 inch Proto bar pried it out very nicely. Goes without saying, the offending metal will be straightened before I reinstall the spare.

Guess I won't get overalls yet.
