ok, here we go. this has probably been asked before but I can't find the answer. in 1966 chevy had two frame stands. 6cyl and 8 cyl. two different motor mounts, short and wide, tall and narrow. the tall and narrow will not go over the frame stands. the question is, if you have a big block, do you use the short and wide, whitch will work. the short and wide was for the small block. again, do you use the small block mounts in conjunction with the cable in case the mount breaks? I can't understand why chevy says to use tall and narrow when they won't go on the motor stands. any ideas? belair b body

Hi Jerry, I don't have any info to back this up, but I was told many years ago that a big block in a 1965 to 1970 chassis used different engine mounts small block versus Big block. This is due to the big block being shifted about an inch over to provide clearance for the steering box. As I said I don't have any part number books for 65 to 70 models, but maybe others here might be able to check their parts book. Probably the parts book only gives application and not any measurements.
You might need to fit up the BB and see how the clearance goes.

thanks jack, just to follow up, I'm going to try the small block mounts because they are 2.5" wide. sure would like to use the big block mounts but they are to narrow. like I said, I don't understand the 66 engine mounting. the frame stands for all the v-8's are the same. motor mounts should be here Tuesday so i'll let you know how it works out. jerry

up-date on motor mounts. I used small block mounts and they worked out just fine. it is my opinion that the mounts used in 1966 was the same for big block and small block. because of the big block torque, the recall was brought in. the recall brought on the "safety cable" because of broken motor mounts. any other opinions on 1966 mounts? while I have your attention, got another question. I want to go to a one wire alternator. do you just use the hot wire and cut off the plug? thanks in advance
