1940 was the first year for sealed beam headlights so there were many subsequent changes. There is no parts listing for 1940 headlight sub bodies (inner buckets)either PASS or COMM so I am not sure what was inside. In 1941 the headlights were moulded into the fenders and there were new numbers for 41(2),41-46.... So the 40 COMM appears to be a one shot headlight? Has anyone had any success substituting internals from another production year? The sub body must have a diameter of less than 7 5/8 inches.

You may want to call Obsolete Chevy Parts Co. at 1.800.248.8785 and ask them. They show most all the parts you are looking for.

There is no inner bucket on a '40 truck, as the sealed beam unit is mounted solid and adjusted by swiveling the bucket on the stand. The '41-'46 truck bucket is mounted solid to the fender, and needs the inner bucket for adjustment.
