Can someone tell me where I begin investigating my mechanical brakes briefly locking up intermittently when I step on the pedal?
NEWSFLASH: You guys might enjoy this one. I went to a small car show this weekend and the winner of the most "original" car was a 2011 Camaro! Yes 2011. You can only imagine the response from all who attended.

If it were mine the first thing I would do is sand the linings and drums. There may be a glaze built up on the surfaces. Wear a breathing mask due to possible asbestos dust.

I agree with the sanding recommendation, but I'd just do the drums first and see what happens.
The previous owner of my '28 painted the inside of the brake drums, causing intermittent grabbing. After I sanded the paint off, the brakes worked much better.
Cheers, Dean

220 is fine but do the drum and lining as it is easier than pulling the drums twice.....also pack the front wheel bearings if you never had the drums off......if any lining is left.

While the drums are off use a can of BRAKECLEAN and make sure there is no grease or fingerprints on the braking surfaces. Locking up usually happens when there are contaminants on the linings.

Don't you have to pull the axels to get to the rear drums?

Then in front of everybody grill the moron with questions as to their mental capacity. I mean that is so stupid ,a 2011 camero as most original car. The real question is, WHY is a 2011 camero in the show ?????? I am laughing so hard it hurts. mike

Don't you have to pull the axels to get to the rear drums? Yes you do , just done the very same job, its a tricky job lying on your back under the car,so recommend that you find a hoist and do the job standing up, and small, long fingers are a definite advantage....good luck Peter
