My 1931 has a Carter RJH-08 carburetor. It wants to run way too rich at idle. The low speed jet (idle tube)is definitely there but has no threaded, slotted screw on the end. Posts by knowledgeable people here suggest that the low speed idle tube should have a slotted screw attached (soldered?) to it.

The Filling Station lists a low speed jet tube, part # RW-466A for $18.50, which as pictured shows no slotted screw on the end. Another vendor, Gary Wallace at early Chevrolet parts lists variously: 1.A low speed jet tube with slotted screw as a package for $34. 2.A cap for low speed jet tube for $18. 3.A low speed jet tube for $18.

I am a bit confused. Assuming can be risky I know but I'm assuming a possibility for my rich idle is the lack of the slotted screw. But; the FS part appears to have no slotted screw and another vendor seems to sell tubes and screws individually or as a package. Any help/suggestion is welcomed.

Best Regards,

Tom

The low speed idle tube should have a slotted screw cap that is soldered to the tube. You can get the correct low speed idle tube with the slotted screw cap from Gary Wallace.

The low speed idle tubes are available also without the slotted screw cap but those tubes are for the applications where the slotted screw cap still exists.

Or you can buy the slotted screw separately and then solder it to the tube. In any case you will need to pull the low speed jet tube so the screw can be soldered on it. That can be a chore if you don't have the special tools to grab and extract the tube. Don't even consider drilling it out unless you want to create a much BIGGER problem. There are rebuilders that have the correct tools. Not all rebuilders do!
