What is the difference between the cam for a 27. 346742. And a 28. 348669
The repair manual shows a difference between the cam gear key way and the tooth that aligns with the crank gear
According to the parts manual. The 27 AA uses cam number 346742. And gear set. 5/8". 325404 steel and crank gear 325396 steel
Or
Cam gear 345591 steel and crank gear 346874 fiber. 13/16
I have a steel crank gear and a fiber cam gear. 13/16". Haven't opened it up yet to get numbers. Were fiber cam gears later introduced?
The manual says (p42-43) that the alignment tooth (AB) 15 teeth from the key CCW. But the (AA) is 13 teeth CCW. The dot on the AB is under a tooth. The AA dot is below a notch not the tooth. Help.

You really should read the "School is in Session" that answers all your questions about cams, gears, and miss marked stuff. Quickly, the 27 is different from all other beasts. The 27 has a fiber crank gear and a steel camshaft gear. All explained in the SiiS. The SiiS is accessed through the Teck Talk thread on this Forum.
