In refinishing my '30 oil pan I noticed what appeared to be remnants of a fibre gasket for the oil pan plug. Did GM use a gasket on these plugs, and if so, of what material?

Yep, and the drain plug gasket is listed in your Chevrolet parts book.

I'm guessing it's a copper washer/gasket. Perhaps someone who knows for sure will reply.
