Tonight we moved our entire service to a new location.

Both http://vcca.org and Chat are running on an entirely new server.

Please check it out and post your comments here. Thanks.

Just like driving on paved roads-as smooth as can be. Hopefully we are done with the bumpy roads and will no longer find ourselves in the ditch waiting to be rescued by the tireless efforts of the "BBB Rescue Service". Thanks Bill!!

The site seems to be working fine and everything looks great!

For me, since I am on a dial-up, the load time is slow....about the same as it was on the other server. Anyway, hopefully by going to a new server it will correct our previous issues.

One comment, and it's not a big deal......I sent a PM to another member last night and it was just about the same time Chat went "off the air".
The PM must be floating around in cyberspace. Looks like it disappeared with the changeover.

Good job Bill ok

Mr. B,

Tried to get on last night at 847PM and just gave up at 920PM. Must have been at time things changed over. Sure is sweet this am as to speed.

Thanks for the change over and all your hard work. May just be the cats meow now.

Jim.

We went offline around 6 pm (PDT) last night - just as the System Administrator began his evening shift. (By the way he lives on the East Coast, so it was 9 pm for him.) He spent over 4 hours "packaging" our data for the move.

Then just after 1 am, I saw that our domain name was active again. As I began to look at the homepages of VCCA and Chat, he texted me that he was done.

I only found one item that didn't work, and he fixed it immediately. Around 1:15 am we declared victory.

We are now located on an entirely different physical server with only about 1/3 as many other clients. The speed different is remarkable. But the big test will be on Sunday morning when traditionally all of the backups take place.

For the past 5 weeks or so, I've been using a new service that pages me immediately when our service is impacted. Here is the "uptime" chart for yesterday - which clearly shows us offline during the move.

WOW!! So that's what happened. Everything went so fast this morning when I came to Chat that I thought someone had switched my DSL to Roadrunner in the night. Thanks, Bill. Beamer

If we changed servers I would have expected to have to reset cookies and sign in but that didnt happen though occassionally there is a slight delay when changing topics but that could be the my distance from the server.

Chevy Chatter is running really slow for me tonight. Just did a Ping on the site and my average is 314ns.

So the next step is to see WHERE the slowdown is on your path.

Do a TRACERT.

Same steps as Ping -- tracert vcca.org

I did and it came up with a bunch of cool stuff.

Here are a couple:

312ms at quest.
374ms at acm-core.expedient.com

So now you know exactly WHERE your slowdown is at. It is common for a request to a web site to cross over 15-25 different links (or sub-paths).

The Ping test gives you a TOTAL time to transit the entire path.

The TRACERT then breaks down the different sub-paths and gives you a time for each link.

You just found the two offending links in your path. This has nothing to do with the VCCA host. It is entirely dependent upon your internet provider and how they manage their traffic through the various network carriers.
