HI I'm having a hell of time putting the oil pan back on the 28'. Its the cork gaskets giving me all the trouble. Any tricks to get these on? The engine is still in the car by the way.

The trick is to push tacks into the cork gasket far enough for the head of the tack to "lock" on the edge of the pan. Another is to use gasket cement or contact adhesive or upholstery adhesive to glue the cork to the pan. As long as the adhesive is flexible it will allow the gasket to move to adjust and seal against the block and other gaskets.

Well did the can thing worked great and got the oil pan back on this weekend. The car started right up. Had oil pressure around 11-13 psi in idle. Is that normal?

Car seems to be blowing a lot more smoke now also not sure why any thoughts?

Doesn't help much for the end pieces but something my grandfather taught me years ago was to tie the gasket to each bolt hole with sewing thread. Once the bolts are in but not torque to final specs, clip the threads and pull them free. Works like a champ every time. For the end gaskets I use 3M 77 spray adhesive. Just a light tack coat and let it set for about 3-4 minutes. Push the gasket on and then assemble. Works great!
