I believe that at some point between '58 and '63, Chevy discovered that black paint was cheaper than body-color paint. Can anyone tell me what year they started using black paint for the underside of hoods? I know it was after 1958.
Thanks folks.

1940 was the first year. I know 1934-1935 was gray, not sure about prior to that.
