Hello Gang,
I know this is the wrong forum to discuss this but please bear with me. Some things must be shared. Have a look at the V7 motor from my son's '66 Mustang.

No work on the '30 Chevy for me. It's gonna be a long weekend. :-]

So where is the non-piston? Maybe it's down in the crankcase in powdered form.

You guys are really BAD. But at lest one of you is right! The remains of the piston, the bits that aren't powdered and spread around the induction system, are in the crank case laying in the oil pan -- right next to the exhaust valve head! :-P

My son and I are trying to see the silver lining on this dark cloud and rebuilding the engine with a little more umpfh. ;-] It is important to put disasters into perspective for our children -- especially these days. Emotions are magnified in young people. It is our job as parents, to keep them in perspective and help the kids learn that. Philisophy mode off...

You can tell your kids there is an historical precedent for this; Louis Chevrolet, the 1915 Indianapolis 500, a Cornelian car with a 4 cyl. Sterling valve-in-head engine. It swallowed a valve.

A similary destroyed transmission in my fathers 38 Buick last day of school 1949 earned me a light tap on the side of my head from a l98 #, 6' 1" well developed father just trying to drive home the point that things do break. HMMM I wonder if Marvel Mystery Oil would have saved the day!

Rick,
Look on the bright side looks like the block is still in one piece. Often the rod and pin will beat holes in the cylinder wall. Then all you have is a boat anchor.

Rick, it might be a boat anchor all right, My son had a Ford engine in his 65 Fairlane that looked almost that good, it was a boss 302, that got out of time , the valves came down when the piston went up! He never did learn much, he drives Dodge pickups now, I had to quit grubstakeing him after he made SGT. 1st Class, Ha!

Thanks Guys, you have made me smile. See :-) we picked up all the gaskets at lunch yesterday and ordered a new manifold last night. Today, I buy a piston, rod and a couple of push rods -- and a 4bbl carburettor. The heads went to the machine shop and should be done in a few days. Perhaps all will be functional by next weekend! :-)

And then, I am back on the '30 Chevy's timing. Best regards, rick

My son started our by rebuilding, with my help, a 1959 Lancia Appia V4 engine, then an MG L4 engine and now, the Ford 289 V8 engine.

My daughter, now 18, started off by cosmetically restoring a Jeepster Commando, then a Mercedes 190e, and then a '92 525i BMW. She turned all of those cars into cash and now drives a cheap little Mitsubishi Eclipse while saving for a late 60's corvette to restore!

They are as bad as me. To my wife, ALL cars are just major appliances. :-P

Gee I don,t know what happened I was just pulling away from this stop sign and some think went clunk and it just stopped running.. Had a guy come into the shop said the boy,s corvette had a miss in the engine said he thought it was a head gasket, went to push it in and some oil dripped on the floor looked under at the engine to see where the oil was comming from and one piston and rod were gone out the block and not to be found and that happened at 35 miles per so they don,t make things like they used to !!!!!doc
