Sure,

Harmonic balancer: Use a puller.

Flywheel: Lightly tap the back side. May need to turn the crankshaft some.

The link bellow is to a previous post from April of 2013. We have an index of old posts that you can find how we explained something already. To access it select the SEARCH heading at the top of the page. For best results use only one word to describe what info you need. (The index is still not very user friendly.) I chose the word Harmonic. I also choose the period of time I wanted searched as older than three years and newer than 1 month. This will then search our index for posted articles on your topic.

The specific post that this link leads you to was about how to install a harmonic balancer, but in my answer I choose to also discuss how to get it off.

Good luck, Mike

There are specific installation tools for each operation, both designed to correctly remove and re-install the balancer onto the crankshaft snout.

The puller makes easy work of pulling the balancer off.

The installer is basically a bolt with large washer and a threaded nut same size as the threads that easily pushes the balancer back on without resorting to whacking the balancer with anything. Whacking it is the wrong thing to do. If you shop arpound at automotive parts stores you should be able to purchase the pair. If not shop ebay.

Its always nice to have the right tools in your collection.

What is the indicator(s) of a bad harmonic balancer anyway?

How do you test one to see if it has slipped or whatever fault it may have. Spin on something? Is it supposed to be perfectly balanced or off a tad to match the rhythm of the rods and crank journals?

To use the tool to press the harmonic balancer on a 216 or 235 motor the end of the crankshaft has to be drilled and tapped.
