Any certain steps I need to take to make sure I get the trans and shifter in the same gear as I install the trans after a rebuild?

I don't think I fully understand the question.

Just put the transmission in making sure the the selector arm is tightened and in the groove. that the arms haven't been messed with - if so they may need a little adjusting. May need manual.
