Looking for a VIN on a 1950 Chevy Pickup. Door plate is gone! Some say to look on frame or near cowl....we've looked everywhere. No VIN........ Have also heard that the 1950 models had no stamp on frame...only door plate. Anybody have any ideas or know the scoop for sure? Many thanks for your help.

Ya know, I think mine had a plate on the door jam, but here in CA. it won't do you much good...Your VIN # ( as seen on the Title ) is the Engine Serial #...That's what DMV uses...Hope that helps...Kevin

The seril number is NOT stamped any place on a 1950. It was stamped ontop of the frame under the drivers foot area on 1955-1957 cars.

your in CAIF?
the CHP once told me from 47 on the front frame rail had a vin number? maybe you can check that, and have the CHP offer you a CALIF "BLUETAG" that`s the new issue vin, they can use, after they find your the HIDDEN frame vin,
i can`t check, all my cars are 1939 and older

The CHP does offer to issue you a "tag" you can screw on the door jam or where ever...But, you have to drive or trailer the vehicle down there...I would first get out your Title and see if the numbers on it match the serial number on the engine block...A friend of mine did the CHP route for his '46 truck...I myself prefer not to have to talk with a CHP officer unless wants me to pull over...If the numbers on the Title and engine don't match, DMV has a form you can fill out and get a new title with that as your VIN ( because some one swapped engines and didn't inform DMV like their suppose to )...But, you'll still have to take it down there for an "inspection"...Go talk to them first...They don't do inspections all day. They have a "window" of times...Like Mon. and Wed. 8:00 to 10:00 am...Good Luck
