came across an old discussion...2005.... on manifold casting nos. I'm don't a bit of work on my '48 and the correct no. in the post was 3835395...but mine says 3835150. This car has been garaged for ages, and I believe it has all original equipment...Does any one have access to casting nos. on the manifolds ? I have a few other mid 40's engines and would welcome info on other casting no's....by the way, the head is an 839401...so that looks good...thanks

There are a few different casting numbers for a 1948 intake manifold. 3835150 would have been found if the manifold was cast in 1948. As minor changes were made in the casting (earlier and later years) the casting number would be changed. To find the correct 1948 casting number you would need to consult a 1948 parts book. Then it is even possible a change could be made during a single year.An example in 1957 the intake manifold for a 283 with a 4 barrel had an early and late casting number.

In the 1953 parts book it is part #3891933 and could be casting number 3835395 or 3835527.

Gene, Because the my 49 parts book (Effective April 1, 1949) precedes your 53 one, then wouldn't you say that the former was closer in both time and listings than the latter? I may have misunderstood but I thought the quest was for the correct casting number of the intake manifold on a 1948. Respectively, Charlie

The number correct one would be the 3835150 as that was the number used in 1948 UNLESS THERE WAS A NUMBER CHANGE DURING 1948 - and doubt there was. The other higher numbers would be later numbers but the later number ones would still fit a 1948. An intake manifold was seldom replaced with a different one as the casting was quite durable.
