HI Guys, I'm looking for anyone that may have images or drawings of the connection between the end of the ignition switch and the distributor. I bought this car without the switch installed and I'm not certain how it all comes together at the distributor with the screw, nuts spacers, etc. Thanks for any help

If you go to Bill Barker's 1931 Chevrolet Site you will I believe find a diagram showing how all the various small parts of these ignition assemblies go together.

The 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book has good illustrations of the individual parts that are installed between the end of the electrolock and the distributor. You can purchase a reprint of the parts book from the Filling Station. www.fillingstation.comAlso, do a search on this site because we have an had extensive and detailed discussions on the step by step procedure of the parts used in installing the electrolock to the distributor.

Ask the FS what the date of the parts book reprint is as I got one that is the February issue and it is not that great. I think the "good" one is August of 1932.

There's an excellent diagram and description in the MEMBERS area of the VCCA website... This is one of the pages that I don't have on my site. For tons and tons of other 1930-32 information, go to the Members area at http://vcca.org/members/It's worth the price of membership!!! --Bill Barker http://1931chevrolet.com

Hey Bill why don't you have it on your site?

I just had that discussion a few days ago with a non-member... good timing. I told him that my site has a ton of stuff that is mostly available elsewhere in books and manuals... My original intent was to update some of it with prices and alternatives -- eg. rollers for ball bearings. And to add personal findings and observations- eg. Lessons Learned. But, over the years, I've picked up lots of other "interesting" things like Installation Instructions for various accessories. And I've found that people who have these don't usually share them. ?!? <<And THAT could begin a 100 page discussion here -- but let's NOT explore why people do what they do.>> The punchline is that THIS CLUB SITE EXISTS only because of folks who faithfully join and pay dues each year. So my philosophy was to try to help the club stay solvent and long-lasting. One way is to post information that is not "normally" available anywhere else. It is an INCENTIVE for folks to join us for ONE YEAR... and then, I hope that the G&D and other club activities will "hook" them so that they realize that they are getting more than their money's worth. Then hopefully they would renew and help to keep the momentum going. I have joined a number of "organizations" for a small amount of information that they had, and which isn't available anywhere else... I'm thinking especially of 3 or 4 different Genealogical clubs... And I've never felt bad that I had to give them a year's membership in order to have access to their in-house data. To me it was a simple price to pay for all of their hard efforts. So, I'm wearing two hats... On one hand, I'll continue to post early 30's info on my site for all to see (and steal) <<there's ANOTHER story that I don't want to get into>>, and on the other hand, I am DONATING other materials (more rare?) to the VCCA so they can add it to the Technical Resource Center. Just trying to add more value to the membership. --Bill B

Very good and well thought out answer. I have to agree with everything that you said. I have used your site so often to verify and look up information and I find it almost mandatory for anyone who owns a 31 Chevrolet. I really appreciate your efforts in posting and sharing so much information.

Bill, I have basically taken the same position. Sorta like Why buy the cow if the milk is free. I accumulated tons of 1931 parts, information and experience over the greater than 40 years that I have owned and restored 1931 Chevrolets. Bought my first one in 1969 and joined the VCCA just after. I will gladly share as long as the receiver genuinely appreciates what they get and does what they can to preserve Chevrolet history and help others as they have been helped. It galls my gizzard when someone receives information or hard to find parts and I get the feeling that they go away thinking "What a dummy. Look what I got for nothing". Just had one a couple of days ago. He will never get anything else if I can help it. Those people who feel they "deserve" something just because they are still breathing (bad Chipper, don't get political)..... I have been a VCCA member since I was in my 20s and contributed at all levels. I appreciate what the VCCA has done to preserve Chevrolet history. That is why I have published in the G&D and resist sending out copies of rare literature and hard learned lessons for nothing. It has cost me time and $$$$ to acquire it and giving it away for nothing pains me. I have even had people, who were given copies of rare literature and agreed to not copy it or send to others, make copies and sell them. Guess you know that I have never send out another copy of that information or anything to that person. No it is not Chevrolet but a arms length associated make.
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
