As some may know, I have a '31 Coach running a '30 engine and '30 transmission and '29 head. I have a lead on a '31 transmission and support/bell housing complete back to the torque tube. Can this bolt up to my '30 engine? The unit comes with '31 brake and clutch pedals and I know some of that is also different. If it will bolt up I may restore it as a spare or to hold til I find a '31 engine.

The '31 transmission will not bolt up to the '30 clutch housing. It will take the '31 or later clutch housing.

I would suggest holding the 1931 items until you find a 1931 engine assembly.

Do you for sure have a 1930 engine or do you have a 1931 engine cast in 1930?...Joe

My engine was cast in August 1930 and is mated to a '30 pressed steel bell housing/tranny support and has a '30 transmission with the '30 clutch pedal adjustment etc. My plan for this new one would be to eventually bolt it up to the '30 block if the cast steel bell housing can do that, or hold it until I may find a '31 Engine. No urgency, just looks like a decent transmission, can probably pick up for about $100.

I have a '31 clutch housing and transmission bolted to a '30 block. Not exactly know what might (or might not) need to be modified as I didn't do the assembly. Just acquired it that way.

The 30 crankshaft uses a bushing instead of a pilot ball bearing like the 31 so you will need to make one that fits the crank and the 31 tranny.

The end of the input shaft is the same for either so either a bushing '30 or bearing '31 can be used. Depends on which flywheel is installed.

OK guys, thanks for the insight, I'll assume it can be used, as Chipper says, why not, and worst case scenario is I deal it off to soemone else or as Dawg says, wait until I get a '31 Engine!

The pilot bearing issue was covered back in Feb of 13, please see Steves response;

Steve from The Filling Station here. The ID of the bushing for 1930 is not the same as the ID of the bearing used in 1931. If you have a 1930 crankshaft in a 1931 engine, you have a big problem. The input shaft OD is larger on 1930 than in 1931 and newer engines. The bushing will fit the crankshaft fine but will be too large for the 1931 input shaft. The only solution I can think of is to change the input shaft to a 1929 or 1930 shaft OR have a custom made bushing to give you a proper fit. 1929-1930 Bushing ID: .625" 1931-1938 Bearing ID: .590"
