I've been looking for about 30 minutes and can't find this on the site, though I know I used it in the past to look up this info.

I need to fill my trans (not empty) and I can't remember what level to fill it to.

Same goes with the speedo area behind the trans. I know to add about 4 ounces if dry, but how much if you don't know how much is in there.

When checking the rear end grease, what weight do you use to refill? Is checking it the same as a newer car, if you can touch it with your finger you're OK?

Thanks

Here's a start...

I probably need to build a new page on my site that covers all of this information.

Bill, that page has helped me out tremendously in the past. Especially when I couldn't find anyone who knew what 600W gear oil was and then I found that page to explain it.

I still cannot find what level to fill the trans to. I ended up just putting 3-4 ounces in the speedo gear chamber. It doesn't really matter because one of the last times I drove it the speedo started making a terrible noise and then broke. Sounded like a broken cable. I'll deal with that later, though.

Fill the transmission to the bottom of the access plug hole on the side of the transmission case.

That was always the way I checked fluid level in the trans and the rear end. Just get a finger that will go thru the hole and if you can easily touch it , its right below the fill line.

OK, that's what I was thinking but I was unsure if the '31 was different in that regard.

Usually Its 1/2 half way up the bottom set of balls (on the ball bearing )in most non presurized gear boxes. Excess oil can cause overheating problems.
