I'd like to convert my column shift 46 to a floor shift. Old speed catalogs and Whitney etc. showed units available thru the 60's-but no mfg offers them now. I believe I have to find one that fits 41-18 or maybe up to 49 style transmissions. I am fairly sure other/latter shifters won't work. Anybody have an old complete unit for this era they may want to sell? Thanks in advance.

'Suggest you run a "wanted" ad on H.A.M.B. Someone has one they aren't using.

Mr. Gasket might still have one that would work.

Holy mackeral Nick, I'd think twice before you install a vintage shifter of the day, YIKES they can be grief. I had one back in the day from Honest Charlie Speed Shop, it was just a little bit better then garbage, LOL I spent a lot of times crawling underneath my 47 Chev unlocking the trans .I still have the shifter hanging on the wall in my shop,,,,,,good place for it LOL

If you can't find an exact application kit, you can modify a Hurst 3-speed shifter. The mounting brackets and/or shift rods can easily be altered to work.

You'll need one that fits close to the back of the trans case to clear your seat. One for a pickup truck should have the type handle you'll need.

It all depends upon how badly you want it. If you want it badly enough, you'll get it done.

As I remember its the mounting of the shifter unit that is a problem, you need to attach shifter to the rear of the trans where the torque tube ball swivel is .The only mounting bolts available are 5/16" and the ball thingy gets in the way. You can get it mounted but it will likely be a little jiggly.
